PHP 5.3.x upgrades to commence in October
This announcement is a notification that we will be commencing PHP upgrades across our shared and reseller servers as of October 1st, 2011. As per previous announcements, all customers should ensure that websites are now compatible with PHP’s 5.3.x branch.

Incompatibilities between 5.3.x and the 5.2.x branch here: http://php.net/migration53

Although the large majority of web scripts are now compatible, there are still some may need upgraded, tweaked and or remain incompatible. Do your checking! For those that have questions, please consider joining our community (http://www.clook.info/community/threads/php-5-3.8030/) where we have an ongoing discussion regarding script compatibility and the update.

Finally, as a forewarning, the development of PHP 6 has been delayed and the updates that were intended for PHP 6 rather have been added to the PHP 5.4.x branch. Removed items include, but are not limited to: register_globals, safe_mode, allow_call_time_pass_reference, session_register(), session_unregister() and session_is_registered(). There are also several improvements to existing features.

Should you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding this scheduled maintenance please contact help@clook.info for immediate assistance. Thank you!

PHP 5.3.x upgrades to commence in October
As of October 1st we will be commencing with the scheduled PHP 5.3 upgrades. Any day after this date your server is fair game for an upgrade. That said, we will send out a server specific maintenance date during the first week of October.

Oh yea and...

PHP 5.2.18 WILL REMAIN AVAILABLE

For those who still require PHP 5.2 - we will be pulling some strings and putting this as the secondary version across all shared and reseller servers. This will remain in place for the remainder of the year, however you should not bank on this for the long term.

When the switch to PHP 5.3 is made, users will need to do to the following:

1. Login to the cPanel of the account.
2. Navigate to the "Apache Handers" page
3. Put the following in each of the two fields:

Handler: application/x-httpd-php52
Extension(s): php

Any files with a .php extension will now be ran with PHP 5.2.18

You may also directly access the CLI version of PHP 5.2.18 by using the binary: /usr/local/bin/php52

PHP 5.3.x upgrades to commence in October
As you may have noticed, October has come and gone, yet we have not pushed forward with the PHP 5.3 rollout as we had originally anticipated. Rather, we have been listening to customer feedback and working hard behind the scenes to ensure the transition does not disrupt websites that are not yet compatible with the 5.3 release of PHP.

Again, we must stress: if your website, or any hosted website, is not yet compatible with PHP 5.3 then we *strongly* advise that you consider all available options for continued functionality. We will not be supporting PHP 5.2.17 (even as a secondary PHP version) forever and we want you to be prepared.

That said, as of Friday, November 18th we will be making a secondary version of PHP (5.2.17) available across all shared and reseller servers. If your website is not yet compatible with PHP 5.3, at this point you may then change your Apache Handlers on a per account basis to use the secondary PHP version. There will be no downtime during this scheduled maintenance.

On this day we will email a confirmation of this functionality becoming available, provide instructions for changing your Apache Handlers, and inform of additional details specific to the PHP 5.3 upgrade.

Maintenance windows for the (primary) PHP version updates to PHP 5.3 are as follows:

Group 1 (A-D): November 25, 2011 after 10:00 PM (GMT)
Group 2 (E-K): November 26, 2011 after 10:00 PM (GMT)
Group 3 (M-Y): November 27, 2011 after 10:00 PM (GMT)

* Ex: [H]ackett would be upgraded on November 26

PHP 5.3.x upgrades to commence in October
This is a confirmation that all shared and reseller servers now have the capability of running multiple PHP versions on a per folder basis. To enable this functionality, please login to the control panel of your web hosting account and navigate accordingly:

cPanel > Software > PHP Version Manager

All servers are still running PHP 5.2.17 as the primary version. As a reminder, maintenance windows for the (primary) PHP version updates to PHP 5.3 are as follows.

If you website is not yet PHP 5.3 compatible, please ensure you enable this functionality prior to your scheduled maintenance window (above).

PHP 5.3.x upgrades to commence in October
In light of "Cyber Monday" and a handful of minor, but unexpected issues with the PHP 5.3 roll-out we have decided to postpone this scheduled work. This announcement will be updated once the maintenance has been re-scheduled.

Should you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding this please contact help@clook.info for immediate assistance. Thank you!

PHP 5.3.x upgrades to commence in October
Due to the manner in which the secondary PHP 5.2.17 version was configured, to use shared extensions and load the modules in at run time, a few people where hit by missing functions upon changing their settings in cPanel.

This was caused by either the wrong include/extension path being set or the extensions not being loaded and only affected individuals using custom ini files which overrode the server default.

While this could have been handled by automatically migrating INI files, it would still cause issues even if momentarily. To ensure a smoother transition to the secondary version and between 5.3/5.2 (once the primary version is changed) we have made some changes to the secondary 5.2 install which has resulted in the binary now having all our standard modules compiled in statically.

** These changes are now live and you may switch to the secondary version of PHP by going to: cPanel > Software > PHP Version Manager **

Please send us a support ticket if you have any issues after switching the version. For the people awaiting 5.3, the new update schedule is as follows:

Group 1 (A-D): December 7, 2011 after 10:00 PM (GMT)
Group 2 (E-K): December 8, 2011 after 10:00 PM (GMT)
Group 3 (M-Y): December 9, 2011 after 10:00 PM (GMT)
* Ex: [H]ackett would be upgraded on December 8

Over the past week a number of bug fixes have been rolled out for the PHP Version Manager plugin as well as a few new requested features. For reference the following list of PHP modules will be available as standard on the secondary version:

bcmath
bz2
calendar
ctype
curl
date
dba
dom
exif
filter
ftp
gd
gettext
hash
iconv
imap
ionCube Loader
json
libxml
mbstring
mcrypt
mhash
mime_magic
mysql
mysqli
openssl
pcre
PDO
SQLite
pdo_mysql
pdo_pgsql

pspell
Reflection
session
SimpleXML
soap
sockets
SPL
