PHP scheduled upgrade (5.3 to 5.4)
This announcement is a to notify customers that we will be commencing PHP upgrades across our shared and reseller platform as of August 21st, 2014.

Currently the server you are on is running PHP 5.3 as its primary version. Unfortunately this version is End of Life and hasn't received any updates since December 2013. Part of this upgrade we will be upgrading the primary PHP stack to PHP 5.4.x.

Incompatibilities between 5.4.x and the 53.x branch here:
http://uk.php.net/migration54

We have already updated the PHP Selector cPanel plugin. If you are happy to use PHP 5.4 after the upgrades are complete, you do not need to do anything at this stage.

If you wish to remain with PHP 5.3 as your chosen PHP version, we recommend taking the following steps:

-----
1. Log in to cPanel and navigate to 'Software/Services -> PHP Version Manager'

2. If you wish to change the version for all sites:
Select '[ PHP 5.3 - Change ]' next to the 'Current Directory: /home//public_html'
If you wish to change the version for any particular folders / subsites only:
Select '[ PHP 5.3 - Change ]' next to the folder in question

3. On the next screen, select PHP 5.3 as the version you wish to use and click SAVE.
-----

Finally, as a forewarning, the release of PHP 5.6 is imminent and it's expected that PHP 5.4 will also become End of Life in the near future.

PHP scheduled upgrade (5.3 to 5.4)
Recently, a number of security vulnerabilities with PHP versions lower than 5.5.2 have been discovered, and as a result we are modifying our planned upgrade of PHP to include PHP 5.5 as an additional secondary stack. The primary stack will remain as 5.4 as previously planned.

This means that by default, your sites will use version 5.4. However you will also be able to choose between using 5.3 or 5.5 on a site-by-site basis.

We are recommending that everyone try their sites for compatibility with 5.5 as soon as possible, as some security vulnerabilities have come to light that are not being patched in 5.4 or 5.3. These include a session hijack vulnerability (CVE-2011-4718) and a phpinfo() information leak bug (https://bugs.php.net/bug.php
?id=67498). 5.5+ is currently the only version which patches these security issues.

Please see: http://uk3.php.net/migration55 , especially http://uk3.php.net/manual/en/migration55.deprecated.php for more details on migrating to PHP 5.5

We expect PHP version 5.3 to be end-of-life by late 2014. We will make an additional announcement when this will be removed from the servers, but it's likely to be by the end of the year, so please ensure you test your scripts/sites with newer PHP versions to ensure compatibility. We may have to move the EOL of 5.3 forward if any major security issues come to light.
